PRINZ is calling for expressions of interest for two co-opted board members

The Public Relations Institute of New Zealand is calling for expressions of interest for two co-opted board members for the coming 2023/24 year. The four elected Board Members are Heather Claycomb, Makere Carroll, Denise Mackay and Claudia Macdonald and the three current co-opted members are Fiona Cassidy, Jackie Curtis and Fred Russo.

We are looking for committed co-opted PRINZ members to serve on our organisation’s governing body. The co-opted board member’s responsibilities include advising on strategic plans, participating in evaluations, and monitoring its financial affairs. You should also prepare for board meetings, attend them regularly, and actively participate in them.

Co-opted board members have full voting rights at board meetings. All PRINZ board members are voluntary roles.

For these two specific co-opted roles we are welcoming members with skills and experience to augment and complement those of the existing board.  In particular we are seeking:

  • A PR and communications professional with links to student bodies and/or engaging with young practitioner networks. Strong stakeholder centric focus and an advocate for new and emerging trends and technologies. Previous governance experience is not a pre-requisite for this role.
  • An experienced practitioner with strong financial skills, possibly gleaned from commercial environments.  Media relations and prior governance experience is preferred.

The team at PRINZ are passionate about implementing the Strategic Plan 23-25 for the institute including our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Members with experience in implementing strategies or providing expert knowledge in these areas may be especially interested in these roles.

Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Knowing the organisation’s mission, programmes, policies, and needs.
  • Preparing for meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation.
  • Regularly attending board meetings and participating actively and conscientiously.
  • Keeping up with issues and trends that affect the organisation and industry.
  • Participating in the evaluation of business operations and executives.
  • Approving audit reports, budgets, and business decisions.
  • Contributing to the development of policies and strategic plans.
  • Understanding the organisation’s financial affairs and ensuring fiduciary responsibilities are met.
  • Ensuring the PRINZ complies with legal requirements.

Board Member Requirements:

  • A current financial member of PRINZ
  • Knowledge of PRINZ and the PR and communications industry.
  • Sufficient time availability for board duties.
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills.

The PRINZ Board is responsible for governing and setting the strategic direction of the Institute’s activities  Board members will hold a two-year term, with implementation staggered annually to ensure no more than half the members have completed terms at the same time. The Chair is elected by the Board at its first meeting for a two-year term. Co-opted members will be appointed by the Board at its first meeting.

Members interested in one of the two co-opted  roles on the PRINZ Board should email an expression of interest statement (including details on why they want to be involved) and accompanying photo to susanne@prinz.org.nz.
