Plain Language Act Repeal

As the industry body for the public relations sector, we are disappointed to see that a Bill to repeal the Plain Language Act recently passed its first reading earlier this month.

The Act, introduced in 2022, aims to improve the effectiveness and accountability of the public service by ensuring communications are clear, accessible and understandable.

Placing a dedicated focus on communicating to the public in an easy and understandable way makes it easier for people to engage with critically important services.

As communications professionals we can only applaud anything that puts plain language front and centre, therefore, PRINZ will be making a submission to oppose the Plain Language Act Repeal Bill.

If you have any thoughts you’d like to share with us, or would be interested in helping to write a submission, please contact office@prinz.org.nz
