Meet the 2024 Sally Logan-Milne Award Winner
We are thrilled to introduce you to the 2024 winner of the Sally Logan-Milne Award, Briar Robb. We asked Briar a few questions so you can get to know her a little better.
Tell us about your background:
I studied a Bachelor of Communications at the University of Waikato with a double major in Marketing and PR. From there I returned to my hometown in Gisborne, where I held various communications advisor positions at EIT Tairāwhiti and Te Whatu Ora. These roles allowed me to hone my skills and develop a good understanding of the communications/PR landscape.
Currently, I am the Marketing and Communications Manager at Eastland Port where my responsibilities have expanded significantly. I am the ‘comms team’ for our businesses Eastland Port, Gisborne Airport, Eastland Group and Eastland Generation – so you could say I’m a busy lady!
What compelled you to enter the Sally Logan-Milne Award?
For me, entering the Sally Logan-Milne Award was a great exercise to reflect on my career highlights and consider how I responded to challenging situations over the last ten years. It made me realise I’ve accomplished much more than I thought and shows that working in regional New Zealand does not limit one’s ability to gain a wide range of public relations and communications experience. By participating, I hoped to inspire others to pursue their goals passionately and to recognise that great accomplishments are possible through perseverance and hard work.
Do you have any recommendations for others considering doing something similar?
My recommendation for others wishing to do similar is to work out what you are good at and how that can propel you forward. My approach has always been to create genuine connections with people in all areas of the business and community. By doing this, I have built meaningful relationships that have served me in many different ways.
What are your thoughts around winning the award?
Accepting the Sally Logan-Milne Young PR Practitioner of the Year Award was a privilege and a significant milestone in my career. I was truly honoured that my dedication and passion for PR was recognised with such a prestigious award. Having my career acknowledged in this way by our country’s top PR practitioners was deeply gratifying.
Looking ahead, I am excited about what the future holds and am eager to continue making meaningful contributions to our dynamic and fulfilling industry.
