If you are curious about how emergency management communications works, then this event is for you!
You will be taken on a behind the scenes tour of the Emergency Operations Centre at the Justice Precinct, followed by a presentation over lunch from Civil Defence Emergency Management advisor Rachel Thornton. She will share her knowledge, explaining how emergency management communications differs from comms BAU. She will also discuss her role during the 2024 Port Hills Fires which involved coordinating communications between Christchurch City Council, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) and Selwyn District Council.
Please note lunch will be included with ticket purchase.
Rachel is an experienced Facilitator with a demonstrated history of working in the philanthropy industry. The majority of her work history is in the social justice sector. She is skilled in strategic planning, non- profit organisations, people management, facilitation and communications.
In an emergency, Rachel would be leading the regional communications team here in Canterbury and in ”peacetime” can often found building relationships to instil a more collaborative approach to communications into the emergency management sector.
