JULY 2019 – PRESENT

At the Pharmacy Guild, I have been responsible for writing and editing copy for the two membership magazines, including proactively sourcing external articles, editing and co-ordinating copy, and liaising with designers and printers.

I have also managed the Guild’s social media and website, written and produced speeches, an annual report, media releases and responses, and weekly e-newsletters. I have proactively worked with media to pitch and publish stories highlighting topical issues for community pharmacy and have worked with a wide range of communications professionals in other organisations to get timely and useful communications out to the community pharmacy sector.

Ministry of Health, Wellington CBD – OIA Advisor
APRIL 2019 – MAY 2019.

At the Ministry of Health, I responded to OIA requests, including scoping the request, collating the information, and drafting the response. I also assisted with the logging of OIA requests.

Department of Corrections, Wellington CBD – Ministerial Services Adviser
SEPTEMBER 2018 – MARCH 2019.

At the Department of Corrections, I drafted responses to OIA requests and ministerial correspondence. This included seeking specialist advice and collating information into a communicable format. This role gave me invaluable insight into the operations of a large state sector body and has honed and improved my written communication skills.

Whilst at Corrections, I occasionally assisted with the logging of incoming official correspondence. I also informally helped the Internal Communications team with several projects, including rewriting and editing website copy and producing news stories for the employee intranet.

Delaney and Thorn Public Relations, Paraparaumu, Kāpiti – Assistant
APRIL 2018 – SEPTEMBER 2018.

I contracted to the above firm, helping write and edit media releases, blog posts, and copy for a client’s website. I also worked on a public relations strategy.

EDUCATION:

Whitireia New Zealand – National Diploma in Journalism (Multi-media)
JULY 2017 – MAY 2018.

My journalism studies at Whitireia taught me the fundamentals of journalism, including smartphone-based mobile journalism, research, interviewing, news rounds, writing news stories for print and broadcast, voice and technical training, media law, media ethics, photography, social media, video reporting, election reporting, local government reporting, court reporting, numeracy, shorthand, bicultural reporting and reporting diversity.

Victoria University of Wellington – Bachelor of Arts (Public Policy)
MARCH 2014 – DECEMBER 2017.

During my studies, I majored in public policy and minored in political science. This gave me extensive analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as proficiency in research and professional writing. It also gave me vital knowledge of New Zealand’s policy settings, government, economy and society. I wrote news for Salient, the Victoria University campus magazine, which gave me vital written communications skills and experience in presenting varied information in a concise, easy-to-understand format.

Chanel College, Masterton – NCEA Levels 1-3
FEBRUARY 2007 – NOVEMBER 2013

I gained NCEA Levels 1-3, and showed proficiency in English and History, establishing my current skills in written and interpersonal communication.
