DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 25th February 2026 @ 9:30am – 12:00pm (1 x morning session)\nOverview\nIn a world where everyone’s clamouring for “data-driven” insights\, this course goes beyond the numbers. It’s about learning to think critically\, interpret evidence wisely\, and make sound\, ethical decisions in your PR practice. \nYou’ll explore how to balance data with judgement\, recognise cognitive bias (in yourself and others)\, and turn information from multiple sources into meaningful\, defensible insights. We’ll cover practical tools for interpreting results\, testing assumptions\, and reporting outcomes (without losing sight of people\, context\, or purpose). \nWe’ll demystify core data concepts like reliability\, validity\, statistical significance\, correlation vs. causation\, and bias – all within a PR context. You’ll explore tools\, tips\, and a variety of approaches to ‘measure what matters’. By the end\, you’ll not only be more confident in working with data: you’ll be a more critical\, credible\, and trusted communicator. \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the right data sources and types for different PR goals.\nUnderstand and apply basic principles of data reliability\, validity\, and significance.\nRecognise bias and misinterpretation\, and know how to avoid them.\nDistinguish between correlation and causation when analysing PR outcomes.\nConfidently report results with integrity and credibility\, aligned to the Barcelona Principles.\nBuild a balanced\, meaningful measurement approach using both qualitative and quantitative data.\n\nThis course is ideal for: \n\nPR and communications professionals who want to strengthen their analytical and decision-making skills.\nAnyone who’s ever said\, “I’m not a numbers person”\, but wants to understand how data can sharpen their thinking. \nExperienced professionals who want a practical refresher on data literacy\, bias awareness\, and critical interpretation aligned with the Barcelona Principles.\nTeams seeking to embed a culture of reflection\, rigour\, and ethical measurement.\n\nZoom links will go out closer to the date.  \nMeet the facilitator\nJulia Kennedy is a strategist and facilitator with a background in public health and organisational development. She often says she’s “not a data person”\, yet she’s spent years interpreting complex data and using it to drive critical\, effective decision-making across health and community sectors in Australia and New Zealand. \nThrough her consultancy\, The Thread\, Julia helps purpose-driven organisations make sense of complexity\, clarify strategy\, and turn insight into action. She brings warmth\, humour\, and clarity to topics that can feel intimidating – like measurement and evaluation – making them engaging and accessible.

SUMMARY:State of the Sector 2026
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 26th February 2026 @ 5.30pm – 7.30pm\nOverview\nFor the third year running\, we’ve teamed up with our principal partner\, Isentia\, to bring you the latest insights into Aotearoa’s PR landscape. \nThe 2025 PRINZ Member Insights Report highlighted the key challenges facing the industry: a shrinking media environment\, the rapid rise of AI\, ongoing economic pressure leading to job uncertainty and communications being viewed as a “nice-to-have” rather than a strategic priority. With the NZ general election date set for November 7 and audiences becoming increasingly insular\, the stakes are raising even higher for PR professionals. Authentic communication and trust-building will be paramount this year. \nJoin us for an exclusive update on the latest industry research from Ngaire Crawford\, Director of Research and Insights at Isentia. Following her presentation\, a panel of industry experts will unpack the findings and explore practical ways to navigate the most pressing challenges facing PR today. \nState of the Sector 2026 will be hosted at ANZ’s stunning offices. Thank you to ANZ and Isentia for generously sponsoring this event for members. \nImportant ticket information: \nVirtual and in-person tickets are not interchangeable as there are limited numbers for the in-person event. Ticket purchasing remains the same. \nThe link to virtually join the event will be sent out closer to the date. \nFeel free to email us with any questions at office@prinz.org.nz \n\n \nYour panellists are..\nNgaire Crawford \nDirector of Insights and Research\, Isentia \nAs the Director of Insights & Research\, Ngaire is the regional head for research at Isentia and Pulsar across Australia and New Zealand. She worked on landmark nation-shaping campaigns including the Sowetan Nation Building Programme and Soul City\, an internationally recognised “edutainment” initiative that used mass storytelling to shift public health outcomes at scale. \nIn New Zealand\, Deborah founded the PR arm of Bates Advertising before launching her own agency from her kitchen table in 2000. That business became Pead\, now one of the country’s most respected\, partner-led communications agencies\, known for shaping\, protecting\, and rebuilding reputations for some of New Zealand’s most visible brands and institutions. \nHer work spans major cultural moments and category-defining launches\, including New Zealand Fashion Week\, the revival of the New Zealand Music Awards\, the launch of Xbox and My Food Bag\, and award-winning campaigns that cemented Pead’s reputation for fearless\, effective storytelling. SUMMARY:The Inside Scoop: Strategic Internal Comms for Your Organisation
DESCRIPTION:13th & 20th May 2026 @ 9:00am – 12:00pm (2 morning sessions + 2x 1:1 sessions)\nOverview\nDone well\, internal comms is one of the most strategic levers an organisation has. It connects people to purpose\, shapes culture\, and helps employees connect to each other and understand how their work fits into the wider business. \nBut too often it’s treated as a postal service – the person (or team\, if you’re lucky) people call when they realise “we need to wrap some comms around that”! \nThis course is designed for practitioners at any level who want to move beyond distribution and into a more strategic\, people-centred practice. Across two practical workshops and 1:1 sessions you’ll learn to leverage (and tame!) all the channels available to you\, understand your audiences\, and design communication that supports alignment and connection. \nWe’ll cover: \n\nStrategic capability – positioning internal comms as a strategic advisory function by linking communication work directly to organisational and people goals\nUnderstanding people and audiences – analysing different employee groups and tailoring communication to their needs and context\nChannels and noise – auditing and organising your channels to reduce noise and create a cleaner\, more predictable communication system\nLeadership and influence – working effectively with key leaders and teams (hello HR and IT!)\nMeasurement and value – demonstrating the value of internal comms by reporting insights that help leaders make better decisions\n\nThe essence of strategy is making the best moves with limited resources so this course is also designed to ensure you walk away feeling encouraged rather than deflated – you don’t need a massive budget or a small army to get things done! (Ironically\, having both of those can sometimes make you less strategic because you have fewer constraints.) \nTo personalise this unique learning opportunity\, your investment includes: \n\n Pre-course 1:1 (45 minutes)\nA conversation to understand your context (organisation\, challenges\, stakeholders) and goals for the course\, ensuring a learning experience that is tailored rather than ‘one size fits all’.\n Two live online workshops (3 hours each)\nPractical\, interactive\, and scenario-based sessions covering strategy\, channels\, audiences\, leadership\, storytelling\, and measurement.\n Post-course 1:1 (60 minutes)\nA coaching and mentoring session to help you apply your learning\, troubleshoot challenges\, and support real-world application.\n\nPlease note that ticket sales close on Tuesday 5th May 2026 at 5pm to allow time for the pre-course 1:1. \nYour facilitator is..\nKathryn Ruge\, APR\nKathryn is an experienced communications leader and strategist specialising in internal communication\, organisational change\, and the human dynamics that shape how people engage with information – and each other! – at work. She has led internal communications functions in both the private and public sectors and has supported organisations as a consultant and contractor through complex\, organisation-wide change. \nWith more than 25 years’ experience across frontline\, senior leadership\, and governance roles\, Kathryn brings a practical\, people-centred approach to communication that strengthens trust\, reduces friction\, and helps teams navigate uncertainty. She has developed internal communication strategies for large\, multi-site organisations\, advised executives through high-stakes transitions\, and coached leaders to communicate with confidence. \nKathryn is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and the founder of Engaging People\, a consultancy focused on helping leaders communicate well\, understand culture\, and manage change. A life-long learner\, she has an extensive collection of industry-related qualifications and certifications and is currently completing a Masters in Neuroscience and Psychology through King’s College London alongside becoming an Associate Certified Coach with ICF (International Coaching Federation).

SUMMARY:Introduction to Public Relations
DESCRIPTION:19th – 21st May 2026 @ 9:30am-12:00pm\, (3x morning sessions)\nOverview\nIf you are new to public relations\, get ready to enter a profession undergoing a seismic shift. \nThe purpose of public relations remains the same – building and sustaining the relationships that organisations need to maintain their licence to operate. What has changed are the methods of practice.
